LES MONEGHETTI
The mostly residential Moneghetti neighborhood offers an environment that is redolent with traditional European charm. It is calm and elegant and indissociable from its sweeping view over the Mediterranean Sea, which opens up before it like a promise of luxury and beauty.
Les Moneghetti lies at the intersection of several of Monaco’s prestigious neighborhoods: Monte-Carlo, la Condamine and the Jardin Exotique.
It houses residences that are over a century old with magnificent gardens on their terraces; the neighborhood is shaped by sinuous streets, small local businesses, and elegantly-designed buildings.
From Moneghetti, it is easy to get to many restaurants and businesses in the neighboring Condamine area. Both neighborhoods share the same authentic, picturesque charm.
Princess Antoinette Park, which is lined with hundred-year-old olive trees on its edges and sweeps downward, providing a gorgeous view of the sea and the Rock, is a breath of fresh air within the Jardin Exotique and Moneghetti neighborhoods. It is located right in the center of the Principality, and a joy for children and adults alike, for whom it has an array of activities to offer.
A Belle Époque-style edifice, Moneghetti’s Sacré-Coeur church was built between 1926 and 1929. It is structured around a single, huge nave. The paintings on its vaults span a surface of almost 500 sqm. They date back to 1930, were restored in 2013, and are the work of the Italian painter Franzoni.
A hotspot for culture and learning, too, the Moneghetti neighborhood houses the Théâtre des Muses. This former baker’s bread oven was transformed into a performance space, and the highly intimate setting has been open to the public since 2012. It is the passion project of great theater enthusiast, Anthéa Sogno, an actress and director herself. The local native wanted to “create a place for the public and actors to get together and converse. A friendly space where the bread oven still has pride of place at the back of the stage, and where it lives alongside red velvet armchairs and other Belle Époque-era furnishings. A place where actors and spectators can chat over a drink after the performance is done.”
A place whose name, to many, rhymes with culture, charm, and elegance, all of it sweeping down towards the Mediterranean, Moneghetti is a small neighborhood that houses great and beautiful promises.
